Free Sun, Moon, and Rising Sign Calculator
Find the three signs that carry a birth chart: the Sun of identity, the Moon of feeling, and the Rising sign of first impression.
What Sun, Moon, and Rising signs describe
Together they sketch a person in three layers. The Sun is the aim you practice in public and in private ambition. The Moon is the body of the feeling: hunger, safety, memory, and the kind of care that works. The Rising sign is the lens. It is not a mask you chose. It is the sign that was coming up over the horizon, and it colors the way you start things.
Knowing all three is more useful than knowing the newspaper Sun sign alone. A Leo Sun with a Capricorn Moon and a Cancer Rising does not move through a room the way a Leo Sun with a Gemini Moon and an Aries Rising does. The headline is the same. The life is not.
What you can do with the result
- Read the Sun for identity, purpose, and the energy you spend on purpose.
- Read the Moon for emotional needs, instinct, and what restores you.
- Read the Rising sign for the first impression and the starting style of the life.
- Open the full chart when you want houses, Venus, Mars, and the aspects.
Why the three signs matter
People often try to explain themselves with one sign and then feel misdescribed. The missing pieces are usually the Moon and the Ascendant. The Moon explains the inner terms. The Rising sign explains why strangers guess a sign that is not your Sun. Used together, they make the strengths and the friction easier to name without turning you into a type.
Questions
Is the Sun, Moon, and Rising the same as a full birth chart?
No. Those three signs are the foundation. A full birth chart also places Mercury through Pluto, the lunar nodes, the houses, and the aspects that tie them together. Use the birth chart calculator when you want that wider map.
What is the difference between Sun, Moon, and Rising?
The Sun is the direction of the life. The Moon is the private emotional style. The Rising sign is the zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon, which is why it needs a birth time and a place. People often meet the Rising sign before they know the Sun.
How accurate is this calculator?
The Sun and Moon use a standard low-precision ephemeris that is accurate to about an arcminute, which is plenty for the sign and usually for the degree. The Rising sign is only as good as the birth time and the city. Chiron is a Keplerian approximation and should be treated gently near a sign cusp.
